Chapter 19

Silas

I knew I never should’ve touched her, that’s the second time I messed up. She just has this pull and I can’t keep myself away. Us being together is not possible. One, because of what her father did to my mother and two, we are rival families.

Instead of hurting her, I find myself wanting to protect her, making sure she stays safe all the time. I want to keep her away from Logan. There’s something wrong with how he looks at her, but I can’t blame him. I look at her the same way.

I start making my way to the front door to find Thorn. Opening the door, a smile curves the side of my face. Thorn is one of my most dedicated employees and I owe my life to him at least several times over. “Get somebody to clean up that dining room floor and then tell the guys it’s time to eat.”

“Sure, thing boss,” Thorn states as he walks by me inside the apartment.

Running my hand down my face, I shake off the guilt that threatens to consume me. Earlier today Remy sent me some pictures of Miles. He got into a fight on the basketball court after winning the game and the other team thought he cheated. Most likely a gang that was pissed to be beaten by a white boy.

I didn’t want Willow to think I had her brother hurt, but I needed to use the situation to my advantage, the opportunity presented itself. I still haven’t found out who Logan is. I will get an answer today making sure she gives me the truth.

Heading over to the bar in the living room, I need to chill the fuck out, so I can concentrate and regain control. She’s consuming every part of me now and the promise I made to my father can’t be broken. One thing is for certain, there’s no harm in having a little fun with her.

My cell phone, not Willow’s, starts to buzz in my pocket. Pulling it out I answer right away. “What do you have Remy?”

“It’s nothing substantial, but maybe a lead.” Remy stays silent for several seconds waiting for me to respond. That’s not gonna happen, he hasn’t said anything useful for me to respond to. “After extensive searching, I finally came across an article with Logan and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Myers. Apparently, they were shot in their home and the house was set on fire. The police found the bodies of the parents but never Logan. It was really strange to warrant him a death certificate with no body.”

“Do you think he had something to do with the murders?” I ask.

“He was never suspected of anything, here’s the part that’s tricky. They’re saying a rival family had placed the hit. From everything we’ve uncovered, there’s no criminal activity linked to them. The Myers were upstanding citizens, they were very active in their community. Never been on the radar of the cops, FBI, DEA, etc.”

I know Remy’s been silent for a few seconds to let what he said sink in.
